Tutorial clavel - Carnation tutorial

Hola!!! Quiero compartir con ustedes un tutorial para realizar claveles. Creo que es sencillo, espero lo encuentren interesante (Nota: este tutorial realizado por nosotros fue también publicado en la revista de marzo de 2010 de Artisans in Miniautre - bien vale tenerlo también en nuestro blog!)

Hello!! I'd like to share with you this simple tutorial on how to make carnations. I think it's very easy and hope you find it interesting (Note: this tute of us was published  in the march 2010 edition of Artisans in Miniauter's imag - it's worthy to have it in our blog as well!) 

Materiales necesarios:

• Alambre forrado nº 28
• Porcelana fria en verde y rosa (o el color que quieras para tus claveles) 
• Cola vinílica
• Aguja de coser lana
  

Materials needed:

• Covered wire number 28
• Cold porcelain in green and pink (or the color you'd like your carnations)
• White glue
• Tapestry needle

Empecemos!!!
NOTA: se puede realizar con arcilla polimérica, en cuyo caso, no se utilizará cola vinílica sino arcilla polimérica líquida, y luego de realizado el paso 1 habrá que hornear para poder seguir.
Let's start!!!
NOTE: this can be made using polymer clay instead. Being so, you'll use liquid polymer clay instead of whitre glue, and you'll have to cure after step 1 prior step 2.


Paso1 - Step 1

Cortar un tramo de alambre de unos 4 cm y usando cola vinílica, adherirle una pequeña esfera de masa rosa. Se puede continuar sin problemas, pero es mucho mas práctico dejar secar este paso.
Cut a piece of wire 4 cm long. Using white glue, add a small ball of pink clay at one end. We can go on, but it's better to let this step dry before continue.

Paso 2 - Step 2

Formar una esfera de masa de aproximadamente 4 veces el tamaño de la esfera en la putna del alambre, y presionarla entre los dedos hasta obtener un disco fino.
Forma a ball of clay about 4 times the size or the ball attached in step 1. Press it between your thumb and index fingers in order to obtain a thin disk.

Paso 3 - Step 3

Utilizando la aguja de coser lana, afinar el borde del disco de masa para lograr que quede "arrugado" en su perímetro.
Use the tapestry needle to fringe the border of the disk all the way round

Paso 4 - Step 4

Colocar cola vinílica alrededor de la esfera de masa en la punta del alambre e insertar el disco en el alambre desde abajo como se ve en la foto. Envolver la esfera de masa con el disco cuidando de no eliminar las arrugas.
Put white glue over the ball on top of the wire, and insert the disk from bellow as seen in the picture. Wrap the ball of clay with the disk paying attention not to erase the fringes.

Paso 5 - Step5

Repetir los pasos 2 y 3 para obtener un nuevo disco de masa, pero esta vez, envolverlo sobre sí mismo para generar nuevos pétalos.
Repit steps 2 and 3 in order to obtain a new disk of clay, but this time, wrap it over itself to generate new petals.

Paso 6 - Step 6 

Colocar este nuevo pétalo a un costado del disco central usando cola vinílica.
Place this new petal on one side of the central one using white glue.

Paso 7 - Step 7

Continuar agregando pétalos hasta rodear todo el pétalo central (tres o cuatro pétalos son suficientes)
Keep attaching petals in order to cover all the side of the central petal (three or four are enough)

Paso 8 - Step 8 

Colocar un cono de masa verde desde abajo del alabre para formar el cáliz de la flor (utilizar cola vinílica par adherirlo).
Make a small cone with green clay and insert it from bellow to form the calix (use white glue in order to secure it).
 
Paso 9 - Step 9
Los claveles estan listos!! Sólo queda agregarles un poco de follaje y colocoarlos en un florero para decorar un rincón de nuestras casitas o escenas!
Carnations are ready!! Just add some foliage and place into a vessel to decorate a corner of your dollhouse or scene!

Bull terrier

Hola nuevamente!!!
Quiero compertir con ustedes en esta oportunidad un bull terrier en escala 1:12, modelado a mano y con pelo aplicado. Yo estoy bstante conforme, pero creo que voy a agregarle un par de dientes, porque su "sonrisa" se ve algo rara. Saludos!!

Hello!! 
I want to share with you this 1:12 scale bull terrier. It's hand sculpted and then applied fiber to resemble fur. I like him a lot, but I think I will give him some teeth, for his "smile" seems a little strange, LOL!!

Hola a todos!! Esta vez quiero mostrarles una de las plantas que hice. Se trata de una orquídea, plantas que me apasionan. Puntualmente, mi versión en miniatura de una Phalaenopsis "Pink Lips". Espero les guste!! Saludos!!!

Estantería shabby - Shelf unit in shabby style

En la entrada anterior les contamos que nos estuvimos presentando en varios eventos, y esta es una muestra de lo que estuvimos haciendo para ellos. En este caso, una estantería en estilo "Shabby Chic", que duró bastante poco a la vista antes de ser vendida. Esperamos que les guste. FELIZ NAVIDAD! - MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Hola nuevamente!!! estuvimos más que silenciosos estos últimos meses, pero más activos que nunca en lo que se refiere a hacer minis y presentarnos a diferentes eventos aquí en nuestro país. Ya les contaremos al respecto.
El motivo de esta entrada es dejarles un cálido saludo navideño, desearles que este Navidad el Niño Jesús traiga sus manos colmadas de bendiciones para todos ustedes, y mostrarles un trabajito acorde a la fecha.
Se tratan de 100 pesebres que serán llevados el día 24 de diciembre por la tarde a las salas de internación pediátrica del Hospital Posadas acompañando el gesto de la Asociación Civil "Nuestras Manos" http://www.nuestrasmanos.org.ar/.

Cada pesebre tiene una base de 4 x 2 cm y 2,5 cm de altura.
Muy feliz navidad!!!!


Hello once more!!! We've been more than silent for the last months, but more active than ever referring to miniatures (both making and going to some artisan shows). We'll let you know in a few days about that.
The subject of this entry is to give you a warm Christmas greeting, and wish you all that Baby Jesus brings his hands full of blessings and joy for you. As well, we'd like to share a couple of pictures abut a manger scene. We've made 100 of them, and we'll take them to the Pediatric rooms of the Hospital "Alejandro Posadas" during the afternoon of december 24th. The're part of the Christmas action of a Civil asociation we give a hand to: it's called "Nuestras Manos" ("Our Hands") http://www.nuestrasmanos.org.ar/ .
Each manger scene is 2,5 cm high (1 inch) placed on a base 4 x 2 cm
Merry Christmas!!!

Armario de jardinero - Gardener's cabinet

Hola!!! Quiero que vean un trabajo realizado recientemente. Hacía rato que me venía dando vueltas por la cabeza probar con algo así, y a partir de los planos de una alacena de cocina, haciendo algunas pequeñas modificaciones, y dando un toque de decoración distinto, este es el resultado: un viejo armario de algún dedicado jardinero, que cultiva tanto orquídeas como bulbosas, cactus y crasas. Espero les guste, el hacerlo fue un gran disfrute.

Hello!! I'd like to show you a recently made piece. From a long time the idea of making something something like like this, and starting from the plans of a kitchen dresser and making some simple modifications, giving a different touch of decoration, here's the outcome: a distressed gardener's cabinet, belonging to some old man who grows not only orchids but also bulb plants and cactus. Hope you like it, just to say that the whole making process was a total fun.

Estas son probablemente las dos plantas de las que estoy más orgulloso: se trata de dos orquídeas, pero no simplemente de dos plantas de esa familia, ni tampoco de una especie de orquídea puntualmente. Esta vez, traté de realizar una planta bien específica, y reproducir no sólo las características de la especie sino los detalles de la flor del híbrido y variedad en cuestión. Espero les gusten, yo estoy muy contento con estas dos pequeñas plantas en escala 1:12

These are probably my best flower creations so far, and I'm proud of them. They're not just simple orchids, but a specific hibrid and variety. I tried to achieve not only the features of the specie, but also the flower of the particular hibrid and variety. I really hope you like them, for I'm very happy with them!

Estilo Shabby - Shabby style

Nuevamente diciendo hola tras unos cuántos días sin poder hacernos ni siquiera un minutito para escribir... pero siempre tratando de hacer algo!!! Creo que voy a tener que hablar con mi esposa el tema de poner internet en casa...
En esta oportunidad queremos compartirles unos cuadritos en estilo shabby que mi esposa realizó, íntegramente reciclados, utilizando papel, cartón, polifán y poco más. esperamos les gusten!

Once again we're here after a long break. we were not able to give ourselves even a minute to write you... but as usual, we kept doing miniatures!! I think I'm going to have a chat with my wife about getting an internet service at home...

This time we want to share a cou`ple of shadowboxes with shabby chic miniatures. My wife made them, using nothing but scratch and recycling paper, cardboard, expanded poliuretan and almost nothing else. Hope you like them!!

Estamos de regreso!!! - We are back!!!!

A veces las cosas de la vida nos toman casi todo el tiempo del que podemos disponer, y así ha sido en estos últimos 15 días. En realidad, ya veníamos complicados, pero bueno, ahora estamos algo más aliviados, con mucho trabajo aún, pero con muchas ideas.
Aún así, estuvimos haciendo muuuuchas miniaturas, y de a poco iremos mostrando todo o buena parte. Como adelanto, les mostramos algo que es para nosotros un gran logro: miniaturas en metal. Hemos conseguido hacer una maquinita de coser en minautra íntegramente en metal!!! Fue todo un desafío, pero lo bueno no es que lo hemos logrado solamente, sino que además ahora tenemos la matriz y contamos con la posibilidad de hacer muchas más!!! Esperamos les gusten.
Prontito estaremos mostrando nuevas cositas!!! Saludos!!!

Sometimes life affairs takes you all the avaliable time you have, and that has been happening to us the last 15 days. In fact, we already had a lot of things to handle, but now even when we still have a lot of things to deal with, we are a bit reliefed, and with lots of ideas!!
Despite all the issues, we've been making a lot of minaitures (stress terapy, LOL!!). We'll show you little by little.
As a glimpse of what we did, let me show you one great achievement for us: a metal sewing machine! Yes, we achieved to make it entirely in metal like the real ones, and then painted with enamels. It was such a chalenge, but the great part is not only we managed to make it, but also now we have the matrix and we are able to make a lot more!!! We hope you like them.

Demorados - Delayed

Sólo un susto - Just a false alarm

Ayer mientras intentábamos vincular el blog con facebook, todas las publicaciones del blog desaparecieron. Estaban, pero no se veían! Hoy he podido reparar el inconveniente y todo funciona normalmente (eso espero). Menos mal, ya pensaba que el blog se había malogrado. Por suerte, está en línea nuevamente.
Si alguien tiene idea de cómo puede hacerse, les agradezco la ayuda así evitamos ensayos fallidos de mi esposa y futuros sobresaltos para mi corazoncito.

Yestarday while we were trying to interact our blog with facebook, all of our blog posts disappeared. They were there, but they couldn't be seen! Today I was able to repair the problem and all is working normally again (I think so). I was already thinking the entire blog went bad and had gone... Fortunatelly, it's online again.
If someone knows how to vinculate the blog with facebook, we will gladly thank the help, so we can get my wife out of her "evil essays" and my heart safe from these alarms.

Miniaturas en exposición - Miniatures in show

Hola!!!
Queremos contarles que los próximos días serán de mucha actividad para nosotros en lo que a miniaturas se refiere.
Para los seminarios de este sábado 8 y del sábado 15 de mayo ya no tenemos lugares.
Además, estaremos participando de algunos eventos:
- El sábado 8 de 16 a 20 hrs estaremos en la Feria del Comercio Justo en la Parroquia Santa Cruz (Estados Unidos 3180)
- El domingo 9 de mayo, entre las 15 y las 20 hrs, estaremos en un evento que se organiza en el Club Sahores en Paternal (Santo Tomé y Artigas)
- El domingo 15 de mayo, estremos desde las 11 hasta las 20 hrs formando parte del evento que organiza la Parroquia San Antonio. Se realizará en la calle Lincoln y Pedro Morán, en el barrio de Devoto.

Lemon Pie Tutorial

Hola!!!En agradecimiento a nuestros seguidores y las visitas que recibimos, les acercamos este tutorial que si bien hicimos hace ya un tiempo, estaba "desaparecido". Es para realizarlo en arcilla polimérica

Hello!! To thank our followers and all the visits we recieve, we bring you this tute. Although not new -we made some time ago- it was sort of "missing". It's made in polymer clay.



Este tutorial está pensado para uso personal y no comercial.

This tutorial is meant for personal use, no comercial use allowed.



MATERIALES:

- Arcila polimérica translúcida, ocre, amarilla, marrón, blanco.

- Arcilla polimérica líquida

- Pigmento, polvo o tinte amarillo para arcilla polimérica líquida.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

- polymer clay translucent, ochre, yellow, brown, white.

- liquid polymer clay

- some tint, powder or paint to go along with liquid polymer clay



PROCEDIMIENTO - PROCESS



Para la base tomaremos una porción del color deseado (yo utilicé una mezcla de translúcido, ocre, amarillo y un poco de marrón). Estirar con un espesor de 2 o 3 mm y cortar un círculo (yo utilicé un cortante de 3 cm de diámetro).

For the base, take a piece of the desired colour (I used a mix of translucent, ochre, yellow and a bit brow). Roll the clay into a sheet 2 or 3 mm high and cut a circle (I used a 3 cm cookie cutter)




Espolvorear almidón de maiz sobre una tapa metálica de gaseosa o cerveza (la utilizaremos como nuestro molde para hornear)

Spread some cornstarch over a metallic bottle top (you find them in soda and beers). We'll use it as our "oven tray".

Colocar el círculo de la base dentro de la tapa y utilizar los dedos o una herramienta para hacer que la masa llegue a los bordes de la tapa.

Place the circle of clay inside the bottle top and use fingers or a suitable tool to make it each the borders.

Llevar al horno de acuerdo a las indicaciones del fabricante (10 minutos deberían bastar). Dejar enfriar mientras nos preparamos para el próximo paso (podemos optar por dejar la base ya cocida dentro de la tapa o bien retirarla, yo prefiero esta última opción).

Bake according the manufacturer directions for the clay (10 minutes will be enough). Let cool while we get ready for next step (we can choose to leave the pie base inside the bottle top for the next steps or to take it out; I usually take it out)

Para hacer el relleno de limón, tomaremos TLS (o cualquier otra marca de arcílla de polímeros líquida), y le agregaremos un poco de color amarillo (sólo un poco, queremos que no deje de ser traslúcido!). Yo estoy usando polvo para pétalos -de los que se usan en decoración de tortas, pero también se puede utilizar óleos, otros pigmentos en polvo o lacas vitrales.

For the lemon filling, we'll use TLS or any other liquid polymer clay. We'll add a little yellow colour (just a little, we want it to remain translucent!). I'm using sugarcraft podwers, but oils, other podwer pigments or glass paints can be used as well.

Llenar la base con el relleno y hornear de acuerdo a las indicaciones del fabricante (15 minutos bastarán). Sacar del horno y dejar enfriar.

Fill the pie base with the lemon filling and cure according the manufacturer directions (15 minutes were enough for me). Take off the oven and let cool.

Para la cubierta de merengue, realizar una mezcla con arcilla de polímeros líquida y arcilla de polímeros sólida blanca (usando un palito de helado, presionando la mezcla para unir ambas arcillas -líquida y sólida- hasta que tengan una consistencia cremosa). Te darás cuenta que está bien cuando puedas formar picos con un palillo. Si está muy blando, agregar arcilla sólida, si es muy dura, más arcilla líquida. Yo aprendí esta técnica gracias a Betsy Niederer ( http://www.cdhm.org/tutorials/making-a-miniature-cake.html ) y a Nora Jean ( http://www.norajean.com/Biz-Archive/food/PBandJ/PB-grp.htm ).

Cubrir el relleno de limón con el "merengue" obtenido. Yo agregué unas rodajas de limón y unas hojas de menta como decoración antes de llevar nuevamente al horno, pero esto es opcional. Hornear durante otros 10 o 15 minutos y el lemon pie estará listo!!!
For the meringe cover, make a mixture of liquid polymer clay and solid white polymer clay (use an ice cream stick to make preassure on the two clays in order to force the join until reaching a creamy texture). You'll find ou when it's done for you'll be able to form "beaks" with a toothpick. If it's too hard, add more liquid clay, and if it's too soft, add more "solid" one. I learnt this technique from Betsy Niederer ( http://www.cdhm.org/tutorials/making-a-miniature-cake.html ) and Nora Jean ( http://www.norajean.com/Biz-Archive/food/PBandJ/PB-grp.htm ).

Cover your pie with the meringe. I add some lemon slices and some menta leaves to decorate the surface (this is just optional). Cure in the oven for another 10 to 15 minutes and your lemon pie will be ready!

Una vez fuera del horno, dejar enfriar un poco y se podrá cortar porciones del lemon pie si así se lo desea mientra aún está tibio.

Once out of the oven, let it cool. Cut slices if you wish while the pie is still warm.

El lemon pie cortado y su porción se verán de este modo (o incluso mejor!!!). Dar una mano de barniz brillante sobre el relleno de limón para darle aspecto húmedo.

The sliced lemon pie will look like this (or even better!!). Apply a coat of gloss varnish over the lemon filling in order to make it look "wet".

PATINAS

Hola! Perdón por no estar muy activo, es que afortunadamente estamos con bastantes trabajos entre encargos y clases luego de la expo. No es mucho lo que hemos podido "jugar", pero en un ratito libre me puse a experimentar sobre un par de bustos dos falsos acabados de verdigirs: uno de plata/peltre y el otro de bronce (que no quedó tan envejecido).
Seguramente con un poco de práctica sladrán mejor.

Hello!! Sorry for not being too active, but fortunately after the show we were into, we are quite busy among commisions and classes. There was not much time to "play", but in a brief spare time, I made some essays on two busts looking for a verdigris patina faux finish: one is silver/pewter and the other bronze (this one is not so aged).
Certainly, with some practice, they'll get better.
